EQT Foundation Breakthrough Science Program FAQs

When do applications open and when is the deadline to apply?

Applications open on March 25th and close on April 27th at 11:59pm CET.

Who can apply and what type of research do we fund?

EQT Foundation is awarding grants between €25-100K to support bold, entrepreneurial scientists working on transformative solutions at the intersection of science and commercialization. Our Breakthrough Science Grants for women's health aim to accelerate the development of groundbreaking diagnostics, therapeutics, and deeptech solutions addressing critical gaps in female health.

  • Any scientist or researcher (PhD student, Postdoc, PI, etc) associated with an accredited University, hospital, or other research institution around the world is eligible to apply.
  • The concept submitted is based on novel scientific or deeptech technology. The scientific rationale and documentation validate the idea, and the intended scientific outcomes solves a huge challenge with potential for creating high impact. We’re placing an emphasis on funding high-risk, high-reward proposals that might not otherwise get funded.
  • The proposed solution addresses a significant or future market need; the applicant can articulate the insights and assumptions they’re basing their vision on, and are excited to champion the development to market for impact.

Private companies and post-incorporation projects are not eligible for funding

What solutions are we looking for?

We are particularly interested in proposals focused on:

  • Advanced diagnostics for female-specific conditions like endometriosis, cardiovascular disease presentations, autoimmune diseases, and other conditions with significant diagnostic delays and conditions that affect females differently from males.
  • Novel non-hormonal therapeutics for menstrual health, menopause, gynecological conditions, and diseases that affect females differently such as uterine incontinence and neurodegenerative conditions.
  • Evidence-based female-health deep-tech solutions that improve access, affordability, and effectiveness of care for women.
  • Innovative solutions to maternal health challenges (i.e. pre-eclampsia, pre-term birth) in both high and low-resource settings.

Out-of-scope therapeutic solutions: repurposing of already marketed assets, OTC/supplements

Out-of-scope health tech solutions: telemedicine-driven healthcare services and solutions solely aimed at improving the efficiency of healthcare systems or wellness with no direct implication on specific patient/disease outcomes.
