Trident Desal

Purpose driven desalination

What is the Challenge?

High salinity brines, waters with excessive salt concentration, present substantial environmental and economic treatment challenges. Their production spans a diverse range of sectors, from agriculture and energy to manufacturing and water treatment, necessitating a comprehensive management approach. To significantly improve freshwater availability, it's essential to lower the cost of treating and recycling these brines in water-intensive industries. What if there was a way to desalinate brine without incurring the waste?

What is the Solution?

Trident Desal's work, drawing on groundbreaking research from Columbia University, is making a significant impact in the world of water treatment with their Temperature Swing Solvent Extraction (TSSE) technology. This innovation transcends the capabilities of traditional desalination methods, effectively processing brines with salinity levels up to seven times higher than the ocean's. Their approach, which diverges from the usual thermal or membrane methods, not only leads to more cost-effective brine treatment but also extends the application to more challenging compositions like raw produced water.

What sets TSSE apart is its commitment to environmental sustainability. By moving away from energy-intensive processes like evaporation and condensation and using a solvent activated by low-grade heat, Trident Desal's method is not just thermally efficient but also kinder to the environment. Proven to remove up to 98.4% of salt from brine, TSSE demonstrates immense potential in treating highly saline water. This technology is about more than just treating water—it's about fostering environmental responsibility and offering cleaner, more sustainable water solutions for our planet.
