About the solution
The ability to diagnose viral and bacterial infections quickly, accurately, and at low cost is crucial to providing the correct treatment early and preventing the spread of infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance. VIDEM has developed a patented technology to diagnose infections in care settings or in the home, with accurate results in less than an hour.
Today, it takes up to several days for test results to be delivered while over half of the world's population has no or insufficient access to diagnostics. By minimizing the necessity to send samples to laboratories, Videm can decentralize the diagnostic process that allows for effective, accessible and patient-centric testing in point-of-care and home settings.
The patented technology has been refined over many years of research in chemistry, biotechnology, and nanotechnology at Chalmers University, Uppsala University, and Karolinska Institutet. The method is applicable across different types of pathogens and can test for multiple different infections simultaneously with similar accuracy as PCR. Importantly, Videm’s technology has been designed to be cost-effective, and has the potential to make reliable diagnostic testing more accessible to underserved groups.
EQT Foundation' investment
With EQT Foundation's investment and support, Videm is evolving from the proof-of-concept stage with a prototype and patent protection into a fully integrated system and pilot studies. In collaboration, EQT will help Videm commercialize and scale initially into primary care settings, where majority of infection-related care visits and antibiotic prescriptions take place, and further into additional point-of-care settings and applications. EQT Foundation is excited to partner with Videm during this critical stage of development with the vision to bring access to cost-effective and reliable diagnostic testing to underserved groups globally.
